Seasonal Strategies

Winter Lap (4-5 months travel)

~$505-$535/yr

Switch to Standby for summer months at home. Activate Roam 100GB when you hit the road. Saves over $480/year vs staying on 100GB all year.

5 mo x $85 + 7 mo x $15 = $530

Full-Time Remote Worker

$1,020-$2,520/yr

Roam 100GB at $85 works if you monitor usage. Roam Unlimited at $210 for heavy users or families. No need for standby if always travelling.

12 mo x $85 = $1,020 | 12 mo x $210 = $2,520

Weekend / Holiday Trips

~$195-$320/yr

Standby mode year-round, then upgrade to 100GB pro-rata for specific trips. Pay roughly $42 for two weeks of full-speed Roam.

10 mo x $15 + 2 mo x $85 = $320

Maximum Budget Saving

$0-$180/yr base

Cancel when home (if strong mobile coverage). Accept the reactivation risk. Standby at $15/mo is safer — keeps you on the Starlink network and avoids cell-capacity lockout.

Standby all year = $180 · Cancel all year = $0 (risky)
Important Recent Changes
Jun 2026

Price increases: Standby to $15, 100GB to $85, Unlimited to $210

From June 2026, Starlink increased Standby Mode from $8.50 to $15/month, Roam 100GB from $80 to $85/month, and Roam Unlimited from $195 to $210/month.

Mar 2026

Standby Mode: No in-motion use

As of March 2026, Starlink disabled in-motion use on the Standby plan. It's now classified as a stationary plan only. If you need connectivity while driving off-road, you need Roam 100GB or Unlimited.

Jan 2026

Roam 100GB doubled from 50GB

From 13 January 2026, Starlink doubled the data allowance from 50GB to 100GB at the same price. Per-GB top-ups ($1.50/GB) were removed at the same time — exceeding 100GB now drops to 0.5 Mbps rather than cutting off completely.

Sep 2025

Free pause mode replaced by paid Standby

From 13 September 2025, the free pause feature was replaced by the paid Standby Mode. Previously you could pause for free for months. The price has since increased from $8.50 to $15/month.

Mar 2026

In-motion speed cap: 100 km/h

Roam and Priority plans now have a 100 km/h speed cap for in-motion use. This affects aircraft users but is no issue for four-wheel-drive and road travel.
